KOTA KINABALU: A group of Malaysian travelers is set to embark on an international overland expedition from Borneo/Kuala Lumpur to the United Kingdom as part of the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign, themed “Surreal Experience.”

Scheduled to take place from May 31, 2026, to October 30, 2026, the expedition will involve six participants using two four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles.

The journey is expected to traverse several countries, including Thailand, Laos, China, Mongolia, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands, before concluding in the United Kingdom.

Notably, two of the six expedition participants, Mr. Josely Taising and Mr. Kushan Keridau, represent the state of Sabah, bringing with them the spirit of unity and the cultural identity of Borneo on this transcontinental adventure.

Additionally, the traveling group will celebrate the Kaamatan Festival 2026 during their journey, symbolizing the pride of Sabah’s culture and heritage on an international stage.

This celebration aims to introduce the uniqueness of the Kaamatan culture to foreign audiences throughout the expedition.

In addition to fostering a spirit of adventure and international friendship, this mission aims to promote Malaysia’s beauty and culture globally, introduce the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign, highlight the concept of “Surreal Experience” to the international community, and elevate Malaysia’s image as a unique destination for tourism, adventure, and culture.

This expedition is also hoped to symbolise the spirit of Malaysians in connecting cultures, friendships, and global tourism through a transcontinental land adventure.
