KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police have taken into custody seven secondary school students following an investigation into the recent assault of a teenage girl.
As reported by FMT, Acting Kota Kinabalu police chief Syed Lot Syed Abdul Rahman stated that the group—comprising six girls and one boy, aged between 15 and 17—was apprehended around 3 p.m. on Thursday.
According to Berita Harian, Syed Lot mentioned that the male suspect is believed to have recorded the entire incident.
The case is currently being pursued under Sections 147 and 506 of the Penal Code, covering charges of rioting and criminal intimidation.
Earlier today, authorities confirmed that a 13-year-old girl was attacked by five other schoolgirls at 8 a.m. on May 22.
She filed a police report the following day at 7:51 a.m.
Both the victim and the suspects attend different schools in the Kota Kinabalu area and had connected through a shared WhatsApp group.
Syed Lot explained that the conflict likely originated from a misunderstanding within the group chat. Investigations indicate that two of the suspects brought the victim to the location where the remaining girls then surrounded and assaulted her.
A video of the attack has since spread widely across social media platforms.
