SNT contributes RM10,000 to the Dapur Siswa UMS programme.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah News Today (SNT) has donated RM10,000 to the Dapur Siswa Program at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) following the successful organisation of the Sepanggar Fishing Festival 2026, which took place in a lively manner on Sunday.

SNT’s Chief Executive Officer, Zakaria Damit, stated that this contribution demonstrates their commitment to supporting the welfare of students, particularly those from the B40 group, by providing cooking facilities and free basic food supplies on campus.

He mentioned that the success of the event was also due to the support from participants, the local community, individuals, and corporate companies that contributed to the success of the event.

“We want this programme to be more than just a recreational event; it should provide direct benefits to students and the fishing community in Sepanggar.

“SNT also plans to continue collaborating with UMS through various welfare and community development programmes in the future,” he said when met after the donation was made today.

He noted that the Sepanggar Fishing Festival will become an annual event in Sepanggar, involving the local coastal fishing community.

He added that the organisers also plan to expand the competition to the waters around UMS next year, including deploying artificial reefs to aid fish breeding and create economic opportunities for local fishermen.

“We also plan to use local fishing boats to take participants fishing in the reef areas in the future, thereby helping to generate income for the fishing community,” he said.
