TENOM: A total of 82 Melalap Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) chairmen received their appointment letters during a ceremony here on Tuesday.
State Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industry Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, who is also the Melalap assemblyman, stated that the appointments were made through a meticulous screening process to ensure that only the best candidates were selected to lead the community at the village level.
“Today, we have handed over the appointment letters to all the JKKK chairpersons in the Melalap DUN area, totalling 82 individuals.
“We express our gratitude to the Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Rubin Balang, and the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, for endorsing these appointments, which underwent a very stringent selection process,” he said when met by reporters after the event.
Jamawi mentioned that the selection was made through nominations from the village community before the candidates were invited to attend an interview session conducted by a special committee.
He emphasised that this approach is crucial to ensure that the appointed leaders are truly capable and can effectively represent the voices of the people at the grassroots level.
Jamawi also reminded all the newly appointed JKKK chairpersons to collaborate with the previous leadership to ensure the continuity of the village development plans.
“I have entrusted all JKKK chairpersons to hold meetings and discuss with the former chairpersons so that the development plans in their respective villages can be continued effectively,” he said.
He further stressed that all JKKK chairpersons must serve the entire community without regard to political affiliations.
“We do not want issues in the villages to be labelled based on party lines or support for any particular group because today we work for the benefit of all the people of Melalap,” he added.
