KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah, under the leadership of Datuk Dexter Lau, is organising an ‘Annual Gala’ that is believed to further enhance the good relations between Sabah and China.
Welcoming this effort, the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, stated that it aligns with the Sabah government’s vision to promote culture-based tourism.
He, who is also the Chairman of the Sabah Tourism Board (STB), mentioned that the annual gala provides an opportunity for the people, especially tourism operators, to gain a glimpse of both Chinese and Sabahese cultures.
“What is important is the closeness. When we are close, we understand each other culturally, and this will naturally lead to mutual understanding. We are not only interested in learning about Chinese culture but also about Sabah’s culture.
“Thus, it must be a mutual understanding. However, we do hope for more tourists from China to visit Sabah and continue to be our primary market in the tourism sector,” he said.
Joniston made these remarks when he was met at the Annual Gala organised by MCCC Sabah here on Saturday night.
The event was attended by the President of MCCC Sabah, Datuk Dexter Lau.
Joniston noted that China is one of the main markets for the tourism sector in Sabah.
