Flood victims in Sabah rise  to 5,532 as of 8am

KOTA KINABALU: The count of flood victims in the state keeps rising, hitting 5,532 by 8 AM today, which shows that the flood situation is getting worse.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), in a statement, confirmed that this number includes 1,943 families affected across five districts: Beaufort, Tenom, Membakut, Sipitang, and Sook.

Currently, 27 Temporary Evacuation Centers (PPS) are operational to support the displaced individuals, and thankfully, there have been no reported fatalities thus far.

Tenom has the highest number of evacuees, totaling 3,149 individuals from 1,063 families, followed by Beaufort with 1,456 individuals from 510 families, Membakut with 427 individuals from 169 families, Sipitang with 421 individuals from 176 families, and Sook with 79 individuals from 25 families.

Among the active PPS are the Selagon Permanent Evacuation Center, DSP Banir Hall, Bisaya Arts and Culture Hall, along with several schools and community halls in Tenom that are accommodating hundreds of evacuees.

The public is urged to stay alert and follow the instructions of the authorities, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas..
