KOTA KINABALU; The new Chairman of the Sedco Group, Datuk Masiung Banah, wants the agency’s executive officers to collaborate as a cohesive unit and demands a new high-performance governance system.
He reminded the officers, including executives leading subsidiaries under Sedco, to eliminate the ‘just to earn a living’ work culture and take the initiative to enhance investment potential.
The Kuamut representative reported for duty on Monday morning following his appointment by the state government last week.
He was subsequently briefed by the Group’s General Manager, Datuk Ar. James Wong Kien Peng, who was also joined by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, and Transport of Sabah, Datuk Thomas Logijin, at the corporation’s office in Wisma Sedco, here.
Masiung emphasised that the officers and staff involved with the group of companies under Sedco should work as a family while rejecting egoistic attitudes within the administrative entity.
“We are setting a target for the Sedco Group to emerge as the main economic driver of Sabah in the annual report, which is why we need high-performance professional officers.
“Every proposal must first be thoroughly examined to determine whether it can generate profit or not.
“We cannot implement any project or investment hastily without first making careful plans,” he asserted.
Through the administrative reforms he proposed, Sedco should submit performance reports to the state government every three months.
Masiung urged policymakers to ensure that every framework planned should be based on the needs of the people before being discussed in the Board of Directors’ meetings.
