Padas River’s water level exceeds the danger mark

BEAUFORT: The Padas River’s water level has surpassed the danger threshold following ongoing heavy rainfall since January 1, resulting in flooding in 13 villages within the Beaufort district.

The Beaufort District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) reported that monitoring took place between 2 PM and 4 PM today, with clear weather in Beaufort while it was cloudy in Tenom, Keningau, and Sipitang.

According to reports, continuous rain in the Keningau and Beaufort Zones has caused the Padas River to overflow, raising water levels in low-lying areas.

The Beaufort Civil Defence Force (APM) is monitoring the affected villages, including Kampung Batu 60, Binunuk, Balibata, Bakalau, Bingkul, Lubak, Gumarit, Lago, Suasa, Koundu, Kukup, Kangsa, and Bangkalalak.

Several roads have been reported as impassable for all vehicles, including Jalan Kg Bakalau, Jalan Lago, Suasa, Koundu, Kukup, Kangsa, and Bangkalalak. Jalan Kg Binunuk, Balibata, and Gumarit can only be accessed by heavy vehicles, while Jalan Batu 60 and Bingkul remain passable for all vehicles.

The water level of the Padas River reached a peak of 9.43 metres early this morning, exceeding the danger level of 8.70 metres. As of noon, the recorded water level was 9.37 metres.

Authorities advise residents in low-lying areas to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions during this time.
