KUALA LUMPUR: The decision by the Paris Court of Appeal to completely annul the ‘Final Award’ in the claims made by those asserting to be heirs of the Sulu Sultanate against Malaysia is regarded as a significant victory in safeguarding the sovereignty of the nation, particularly the state of Sabah.
UMNO Supreme Council member, Datuk Mohd Razlan Rafii, stated that this decision demonstrates that the continuous efforts of the Malaysian government on the international stage have finally borne fruit after years of facing a series of claims brought to various foreign courts.
He noted that this success could only be achieved through the diligent work of Malaysia’s legal team, which defended the country without weapons, but fought with facts and legitimate documents in courts around the world.
“Alhamdulillah, victory has once again favored the Malaysian government. If we had not been diligent in combating the Sulu claims, we might have lost Sabah.
“It is the Ministers from the ‘Malaya’ or Barisan Nasional party who have repeatedly defended our homeland.
“Without weapons, but fighting with facts in various courts worldwide.
“They lose in one country, then open a case in another country, and after losing, they open a case in yet another country. This cycle continues, demonstrating their commitment to Sabah and their relentless attempts,” he said while commenting on the issue through a post on his Facebook page.
Previously, the group claiming to be heirs of the Sulu Sultanate initiated several arbitration proceedings abroad after losing a case in Malaysia.
However, Malaysia has consistently argued that these actions are baseless, contradict international law, and violate the sovereignty of the nation.”
