TENOM: The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry, Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, took time to engage with the local community and small vegetable traders at the Tenom Town Market today.
The assemblyman for Melalap visited the community as a gesture of appreciation after recently winning the 17th Sabah State Election.
“This is my second time meeting my supporters. I would like to thank all the people of Melalap who have supported me,” he said when met here.
During the visit, Jamawi, accompanied by his wife, Datin Zainatunnisa Ibrahim, also held a brief meeting with the Chinese Captain at Soon Heng Coffee Shop to hear the views and local issues raised by the Chinese community.
Meanwhile, at a separate event, he officiated the closing ceremony of the ASTAKA Tenom Sepak Takraw Clinic at the Datuk Seri Panglima Antanom Hall, in addition to witnessing the final match of the Tenom Super League Jamawi Jaafar (JJ) Cup organized by JJ Football Club in collaboration with MRZ Production, Local Sports News, and the Melalap Youth Carnival held at the Tenom Sports Complex.
In the recent state election, Jamawi secured a majority of 525 votes in his second attempt to win the Melalap seat.
He remarked that the path to victory was not easy, especially when facing seven other candidates.
He described his victory as a result of the hard work and commitment of the entire party machinery that worked tirelessly to ensure the candidate’s success.
Also present were the District Chief of DUN Melalap, Tusib Tulas; Captain Chong Neng Choon, Captain Chung Kiam Fui, Captain Lai Foon Han, and Captain Michael Chu Siew Kok.
