KOTA KINABALU — CAMOS notes Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s latest remarks in Penampang with the same caution Sabahans have learned to adopt for three decades: Anwar promises easily, but delivers almost nothing.
Let us remind the public of a fact Anwar never mentions:
In the 1994 Sabah state election, Anwar promised to “build a new Sabah in 100 days.”
Three decades later, what exactly has he delivered?
Speeches. Committees. Meetings. And now, another round of promises.**
A NOTICE OF APPEAL IS STILL AN APPEAL
Despite PMX insisting that “the government did not appeal,” the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) did file a Notice of Appeal against the High Court judgment that affirmed Sabah’s 40% constitutional entitlement.
Anyone familiar with basic legal procedure knows:
A Notice of Appeal = a challenge to the judgment.
It is irrelevant whether the government claims to dispute only the reasoning.
If the government wanted only a clarification, it should have filed the proper motion — not an appeal.
This linguistic gymnastics is irresponsible and misleading, especially when the constitutional rights of Sabahans are at stake.
WHY THE SELECTIVE OUTRAGE? WHY THE SELECTIVE PROSECUTION?
If PMX is so “serious” about integrity and MA63, he must first explain something closer to home:
**Why were only two assemblymen charged in the Albert Tei bribery investigation
when more than TEN were reportedly involved and received money?**
Sabahans are not blind. We know what happened.
Envelope politics. Cash-for-support.
And today, only two individuals are paraded in court while the rest walk free — some of them still enjoying positions and protection.
What message does this send?
That corruption is negotiable?
That certain allies are untouchable?
That political convenience determines who gets charged?
If the Prime Minister wants to lecture Sabahans about “not twisting facts,” he should first explain the selective and politically convenient prosecution under his watch.
SABAHANS WANT DELIVERY, NOT DRAMA
Another “technical meeting” on Monday means nothing to us.
We have seen this pattern for 60 years:
Talk big in Sabah,
Delay in Putrajaya,
Blame others when nothing happens.
Anwar’s words today are no different from his words in 1994.
Sabahans don’t want another round of promises. We want our constitutional rights implemented — now.
WHAT SABAH EXPECTS FROM PMX
If Anwar is sincere, he must:
- Withdraw the Notice of Appeal immediately;
- Publish clear, audited revenue figures owed to Sabah;
- Commit to paying arrears dating back to 1974;
- Clarify why AGC is protecting certain YBs in the Albert Tei case;
- Stop using Sabah as a stage for political theatre.
CONCLUSION
Sabahans have long memories.
We remember 1994.
We remember every unfulfilled promise.
And today, we can see clearly that nothing has changed.
PMX’s speeches cannot replace justice.
Promises cannot replace constitutional rights.
And selective prosecution cannot replace integrity.
