KOTA KINABALU: The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) Youth reaffirms its position that the party ought to utilise its own logo in the forthcoming Sabah General Election (PRU), consistent with the ‘Sabah First’ initiative.
Billy Joe Dominic, the Chief of UPKO Youth in Penampang, stated that the party must also be prepared to be expelled from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition due to the principled stance taken by UPKO President, Datuk Ewon Benedick.
He said that this relates to the readiness to resign from the Federal Cabinet if the Attorney General’s Department (AGC) files an appeal against the Kota Kinabalu High Court’s decision regarding the judicial review of Sabah’s 40 per cent rights.
“The UPKO Party Constitution clearly states that the party’s goal is to advocate for the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and the rights of Sabah within the Federal Constitution.
“The party’s objectives are based on the spirit of the Sabah First struggle, which Datuk Ewon has exemplified during his time in the Federal Cabinet and while leading the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives.
“Datuk Ewon has expressed his principle of not being able to support government decisions that contradict the Kota Kinabalu High Court’s ruling on October 17 regarding Sabah’s 40 per cent rights over federal revenues collected in the state,” he said.
Billy added that the use of the UPKO party logo by UPKO candidates is very appropriate and highlights the spirit of the Sabah First struggle that is the foundation of the party’s establishment.
“I believe UPKO is ready to be expelled from PH due to the party’s stance,” he said.
Billy also mentioned that the decision from the Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) annual meeting, which appointed Datuk Ewon as Chairman, has not been resolved by the Chairman and the PH Presidential Council following objections from the Sabah People’s Justice Party (PKR).
“In fact, PKR Sabah has belittled Datuk Ewon and UPKO,” he said.
