WARISAN Urges Federal Government Not to Appeal High Court Decision on 40 Percent Sabah Rights

KOTA KINABALU: The Warisan Party (WARISAN) hopes that the Federal Government will not appeal the High Court’s decision that allowed the Sabah Law Society (SLS) to review the judicial decision regarding Sabah’s rights to the special grant of 40 percent.

WARISAN President, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, said that the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) clearly outlines the method for the repayment of the special grant.

“As Malaysians, we must respect the Constitution of this country. I hope there will be no further appeals against the High Court’s decision as it may lead to various speculations and doubts,” he said at a press conference here today.

Shafie, who is also a former Chief Minister, appealed to employers in Peninsular Malaysia to grant special leave to Sabahans working there so they can return to vote in the upcoming State Election (PRN).

“Do not deny their right to vote. I also hope that airlines can offer lower ticket prices to facilitate their return,” he added.

He also called on new voters, including those aged 18, to fulfill their responsibilities as voters.

“Come out in large numbers to determine your future,” he said.
