KOTA KINABALU: After five years, the Sabah Legislative Assembly was dissolved yesterday to pave the way for the 17th State Election (PRU-17).
Political parties are now shifting into ‘fifth gear’ to strengthen and solidify their influence.
Former Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, stated that with the dissolution of the State Assembly, power is now returned to the people to elect a new government.
He mentioned that the competition stage is now wide open, and all parties will present their candidates and offers to the public.
“The people will assess not only based on promises but also on past performance and the credibility of the candidates presented,” he said in his latest Facebook post.
Salleh, who is also the Treasurer of UMNO Sabah, said that the debate about local and national parties will resurface, especially during the PRN campaign.
“However, the reality is that local parties themselves are not united and are competing against each other.
“What the people want is a stable government – one that is not easily toppled, can collaborate with the Federal government, and is genuinely focused on helping the people,” he said.
According to Salleh, Sabah needs a clear direction to attract investment, resolve basic infrastructure issues, create more job opportunities, and secure the future for the younger generation.
“Ultimately, the people’s vote will be decisive. Choose the team that brings stability – not confusion,” he said.
