KOTA KINABALU: Sabah UMNO strongly condemns the actions of the Israeli regime for detaining international volunteers of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission in international waters.
Sabah UMNO chief, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, emphasised that even though the Israeli Foreign Ministry stated that the volunteers would be sent home, the main question remains: why is humanitarian aid to the suffering people of Gaza being obstructed?
He described this action as a clear violation of international law, the principle of freedom of navigation, and human rights.
“The flotilla ships carry no weapons and do not threaten any nation. They are filled only with medicines, food, and basic aid for the Palestinian people,” he said in a statement.
He noted that the detention demonstrates Israel’s arrogance in politicizing humanitarian aid while continuing its cruel blockade on Gaza.
Sabah UMNO views this issue not merely as a matter of temporary detention or the return of volunteers, but as a larger question regarding the inhumane blockade on Gaza.
“As long as humanitarian aid is blocked, the Palestinian people continue to be collectively punished. Israel cannot hide behind security excuses to deny the right to life of the Palestinian people,” he asserted.
In this regard, UMNO Sabah urges the international community, particularly the UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court (ICC), to take immediate action against the Israeli regime.
Detaining civilian ships in international waters is deemed a unilateral crime, while the blockade on Gaza clearly contradicts UN Resolutions 1860 (2009) and 2417 (2018).
“UMNO Sabah stands firmly with all flotilla volunteers and the Palestinian people. Their courage is a symbol of humanitarian solidarity against oppression. The world cannot remain silent any longer,” he stated.
