UMS Does Not Compromise on Any Form of Bullying Culture – Vice Chancellor

KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) emphasizes that it will not tolerate any form of bullying culture among campus members, whether physical, mental, emotional, or online.

The Vice Chancellor of UMS, Professor Datuk Dr. Kasim Hj. Mansor, stated that the university takes this issue very seriously as it can affect the safety, well-being, and harmony of students on campus.

“Every student must understand that the freedom enjoyed at the university comes with the responsibility to respect and support one another.

UMS will not compromise on any form of bullying culture. If it occurs, report it immediately because this university is a safe place for students to learn and grow,” he said.

He made these remarks while delivering a welcoming speech at the Opening Ceremony of the New Student Orientation Week (MSM) for the 2025/2026 session at the UMS Chancellor’s Hall today.

He added that bullying culture should not exist among students who should focus on academic achievement, personal development, and character building as knowledgeable and morally upright individuals.

“Remember, you are here not to bring down your peers, but to rise together towards success,” he added.

Additionally, he assured that UMS is always attentive to the welfare and main concerns of students, including basic facilities issues, particularly water supply in the residential colleges.
