TONGOD: Young people should make the most of the current boom in digital technology to boost economic resources, said Kuamut assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah.
As such, he reminded them not to get caught up in unregulated media visuals that are based on incitement and wrongdoing.
He said this when officiating the closing of the ADUN Kuamut sepak takraw tournament organised by the Youth Vision of Tongod in Kampung Lingkabung, here, on Saturday.
According to Masiung, the obsession with social media among today’s youth should be leveraged to generate economic benefits while gaining knowledge, rather than being a means to oppress others.
“Many youths today are working full-time to capture significant events live in the country, and they are earning substantial payments from applications like TikTok and other social media platforms.
“Unfortunately, a small segment of society is using digital media for negative purposes, such as spreading videos and false stories to disgrace individuals and certain organisations for political gain,” he stated.
Masiung noted that leading up to the State Election (PRN-17), almost every day, paid ‘cyber troopers’ from various political groups and organisations in Sabah are using social media to attack the government.
He stressed that they are making social media the primary platform for disseminating defamatory videos and inciting news to target government leaders.
He advised the younger generation not to be exploited by any left-leaning leaders with political motives.
