TAWAU: The implementation of solar LED street lights from the White Bridge intersection to Kampung Sungai Udin in Merotai demonstrates that it is not merely a political promise ahead of the Sabah State Election (PRN).
The President of the Sabah People’s Hope Party (PHRS), Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah, stated that the poles and equipment for the solar LED street lights are already on-site, awaiting work orders from the executing agency.
He mentioned that the project announced by the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, in February is highly anticipated, as the route has frequently been the site of fatal accidents, especially at night.
“The public needs to be a little patient; this project will be carried out in the near future… Previously, this area contributed significantly to accidents involving motorcyclists and other vehicles, particularly at the intersection from White Bridge to Kampung Sungai Udin.
“The execution of this project proves that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government is not just making promises but is prioritising the interests of the people,” he said here today.
Liew, who is also the Vice President of GRS, noted that every government project requires time for implementation; however, his team, along with the involved agencies, including the Tawau Municipal Council (MPT), the Sabah Public Works Department (JKR), and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), is committed to executing it promptly.
“For instance, the equipment for the installation of solar LED street lights is already at the construction site to enable work to commence shortly,” he explained.
He added that the installation of the solar lights will be continuously monitored to ensure smooth execution.
“These solar lights are a significant gift to the residents of Merotai, as they are crucial for enhancing the safety of road users, especially at night,” he stated.
