TAMPARULI: Dr Gaim James Lunkapis, the Vice President of the Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) Gundohing, has made an urgent appeal to the government for emergency funding to build a new bridge that was destroyed by flooding over the Montongis River in Kg Bawang on Monday.
He highlighted that the collapse of the bridge has significantly impacted many students and residents who relied on it for their daily commutes.
“According to the concerns expressed by the local community, the absence of this bridge has created considerable difficulties. Therefore, they are requesting that the damage to the Bawang bridge be declared an emergency so that immediate assistance and action can be taken,” he said in his latest social media post.
Gaim, who is also the Tamparuli KDM Chief, stressed that the Bawang bridge is vital for several villages, serving as a key route for both primary and secondary school students.
He noted that at least two schools, SK Lingga Baru and SK Bawang, have had to close due to the bridge’s collapse.
“In addition to the significant challenges faced by students from SMK Tamparuli, those who are employed and elderly individuals with hospital appointments are also greatly affected,” he added.
Thus, Gaim is hopeful that the government, which is attentive to the needs of the people, will give due consideration to this urgent appeal.
