The meeting emphasised ECoS’ proactive role in safeguarding the interests of the people, particularly in the consumer sectors.

One of the key points highlighted was the necessity for suppliers and traders who import or sell electrical products to comply with the relevant regulations, among others, is the ECoS labelling requirements that certify and guarantee products fulfil the required safety standards as well as are suitable for Malaysia’s power supply specifications.

Consumers are advised to be vigilant when purchasing electrical products by ensuring products are certified with SIRIM labels that are recognised by ECoS.

This step is crucial to ensure that the products are safe for use, align with local voltage requirements, and include proper warranty coverage. Making wise product choices is vital for the safety of your family and home.

“We also urge traders to cooperate fully with ECoS by adhering to regulations and avoiding the sale of uncertified electrical products. Failure to comply could result in penalties or the confiscation of products by ECoS. Traders play a key role in ensuring that only certified electrical products reach the market, thereby protecting consumers,” he said.

During the discussion with ECoS, Datuk Nasser urged consumers and traders alike that more information on the relevant regulations and guidelines can be obtained on the ECoS website at www.ecos.gov.my.

The National Consumer Foundation Malaysia—Sabah Branch remains committed to raising awareness among consumers and traders alike to prioritise safety and compliance for the betterment of the community by continuously engaging with relevant stakeholders, including collaborating with the relevant agencies like ECoS.
