Decision on Sabah Water Department graft case, Dec. 4

KOTA KINABALU: The sessions court here has scheduled a ruling for December 4 regarding the RM61.5 million corruption case involving the Sabah water department.

According to The Borneo Post, Judge Abu Bakar Manat established this date following the presentations made for the three defendants: former Sabah water department director Ag Tahir Ag Talib, his spouse Fauziah Piut, and former deputy director Lim Lam Beng.

The defendants entered not guilty pleas in 2019 to 37 charges related to money laundering, which involve RM61.57 million, as well as unlawful possession of luxury goods.

Tahir is facing 11 charges, while Fauziah is confronted with 19 charges under the Anti-Money Laundering Act.

Both Tahir and Fauziah are jointly charged with two counts, and Tahir has an additional charge against him.

The alleged crimes are reported to have occurred at various locations, including an office in Kota Kinabalu, a residence in Sembulan, multiple bank branches, a condominium in Sulaman, all situated in Sabah, and in Kuala Lumpur, during the period from October 4 to November 4, 2016.

Lim, who is charged with four counts, is accused of possessing cash totaling RM2.38 million between October 13 and November 8, 2016.
