KOTA KINABALU: A proposal has been made to turn 800 acres into a residential area for the second generation of Felda Sahabat in the Tungku Lahad Datu state constituency (DUN).
Datuk Abdul Hakim Gulam Hassan, the leader of the Tungku Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), announced that the application for the land has been submitted to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, who has shown strong support for the plan.
He noted that the original Felda area had just over 1,000 settlers, but that number has increased, leading to a significant need for housing.
“This is a key priority for Gagasan Rakyat, especially in the Tungku division. This plan will allow the second generation of Felda to have their own homes on their own land.
“We aim to provide good news to Felda residents soon, as this has been a long-standing issue, particularly for those in the Felda Sahabat Lahad Datu area,” he stated on Tuesday.
Abdul Hakim emphasised that many second-generation Felda children still depend on their parents and live with them, highlighting the urgent need for a solution to their housing situation.
“Many of them have families but still live with their parents, and in some cases, several families share one home,” Abdul Hakim explained.
Meanwhile, Abdul Hakim said that the Gagasan Rakyat Tungku division currently has 8,000 members and 160 registered branches in the region.
“The Gagasan Rakyat Tungku division will hold its divisional conference on September 28, where various proposals will be discussed,” he added.
