SANDAKAN: Vision Primary School Sandakan has showcased its high educational standards and the impressive skills of its students at the 2024 MSS Sabah Chess Selection Camp held at SMK Madai, Kunak. Four chess players from Vision School Sandakan represented the area in a state competition against top players from all over the state. In the end, Year 5 student Lim Shu Zheng triumphed, earning the chance to represent Sabah in the national MSSM Chess Competition. The selection camp aimed to find the best players for the national MSSM Chess Competition, scheduled for September 14 to 19, 2024, in Johor. Lim Shu Zheng will compete in the U-12 Boys category, and his excellent performance has made both the school and Sandakan proud. Along with Lim Shu Zheng, three other skilled players also did well. They are Isaac Chung Vui Ken (U-12 Boys), Quek Kiing Shing (U-12 Boys), and Christal Glory Christopher (U-15 Girls). With the support of their teacher, Ms. Jennyfer Jonius, these four students moved from the Sandakan District competition to the state-level event, achieving great results. This success clearly shows the high educational quality of the school. Each state will send their top 6 players in each age category to the national competition, meaning Lim Shu Zheng will face the best young chess players in the country. “We are excited to see him achieve even more at the national level,” he said.
