Political Survival of the ‘Frog’ Phenomenon: Suhaimi Characterises a Political Analyst’s Statement as a Reflection of Sabah’s People

SANDAKAN: Sabah UMNO Information Chief Datuk Suhaimi Haji Nasir has described the statement made by a political analyst from Sabah, published by a portal yesterday, as a reflection of the sentiments expressed by the people of Sabah.

“I concur with the statement made by one of Sabah’s political analysts, who believes that the GRS party will face significant challenges and difficulties in the upcoming 17th state election,” he remarked.

Suhaimi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Libaran, elaborated that this assertion is supported by several factors originating from the party itself, which has led to dissatisfaction among voters who are seeking political and economic stability.

“Among the issues is the public’s confidence in leaders who lack conviction (the ‘frog’ phenomenon). The coalition comprises former leaders and party members who have switched from various political platforms. Therefore, the people of Sabah must understand that within GRS, there are individuals who prioritise their own interests over the hardships faced by the populace.

“Fundamental issues in the state of Sabah, such as the lack of solutions regarding water supply, electricity, and road infrastructure, remain unresolved. The leaders within GRS bear significant responsibility for these issues due to their administration and management, which focus more on their own political agendas than the welfare and comfort of the citizens,” he added.

He said that GRS, as the governing body, has failed to create equitable job opportunities, resulting in an alarming rise in unemployment rates.

“The situation of the eight poorest districts in Sabah paints a grim picture for the state. The statement made by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, claiming that the state government has successfully met its target to eradicate hard-core poverty in Sabah recently, is highly questionable.

“Such announcements seem extraordinary, suggesting the eradication of extreme poverty within a short timeframe while the people continue to struggle with poverty,” he said.
