KOTA KINABALU: The Housing and Urban Development Board (LPPB) should ensure that housing is provided for the 80 residents of Tanjung Aru Flats before proceeding with issuing eviction notices in the near future.
Putatan UMNO Chief Jeffrey Nor Mohamed highlighted that the deadline of August 31 set by LPPB for issuing final notices is too short, especially since no specific relocation arrangements have been made yet.
He said that previously, the Member of Parliament for Putatan, Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, proposed relocating the residents to the Kibabaig Penampang People’s Housing Project (PPR), but this is dependent on the availability of vacancies in the relevant PPR.
“Residents of Tanjung Aru Flats should be given ample time to wait for new housing arrangements before relocation, so they can address the challenges they are currently facing.
“We urge LPPB to handle this matter with seriousness and responsibility. It’s not just about sending notices, but also about engaging with the residents directly to explain the relocation process thoroughly within a reasonable timeframe,” he told reporters here today.
Jeffrey, who is also the Sabah UMNO Election Director, stressed that LPPB officials should interview the residents to gauge their willingness to relocate on the specified date in the notice.
“I’ve been informed that many children of Tanjung Aru Flats residents might have to travel long distances to reach schools in the proposed new settlement area.
“Given the current economic uncertainties, LPPB should reassess the challenges faced by these residents.
“We will be sending an official letter to LPPB to communicate our concerns, and I urge LPPB to meet with the residents to facilitate the necessary procedures for the benefit of all parties,” Jeffrey Nor explained.
