PAPAR: Warisan is all set to defend the Limbahau seat in the upcoming state election (PRN), according to Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, the party’s president.
He said that Warisan had previously won the Limbahau seat and expects it to contribute to the party’s success in the next PRN.
Initially, he said Warisan held 29 seats, including the Limbahau state seat, before its representative decided to leave the party and join the Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM).
“Limbahau has been one of the seats we won in the previous State Election…What is important is that Warisan is flexible because our main goal is to secure victory in Limbahau.
“When the time comes, we will make a decision and determine our next move,” he told reporters after attending a Ramadan breaking of fast event in Papar on Monday.
In the 2020 State Election, Datuk Juil Nuatim won the Limbahau state seat under the Warisan ticket before leaving the party in December 2021 and subsequently forming KDM together with former vice president of Warisan, Datuk Peter Anthony, in February 2022.
Shafie, who is also the Member of Parliament for Semporna, reiterated his call for Sabah Warisan to be prepared to cooperate with any party in facing the next PRN.
“We must acknowledge that until now, no decision has been made by the UMNO Supreme Council and Warisan regarding this cooperation.
“I can confirm that discussions have taken place between UMNO President, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and the Chairman of UMNO Sabah Liaison Committee, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, but no official decision has been made yet.”
