During the visit, Lai provided a detailed briefing to Julinus about the recent upgrading works, which included the installation of footprints along the trail to serve as a guide for tourists.

The Sandakan Heritage Trail, established in 2003, offers a captivating journey that takes approximately 2 hours to complete.

It encompasses a visit to all 10 heritage sites as indicated on the heritage map.

To enhance convenience for visitors, the new information boards feature QR codes that allow them to scan and download the map directly onto their mobile phones.

In addition, Julinus made a commitment to reprint 10,000 copies of the updated heritage trail map for the year 2024.

This initiative aims to ensure that tourists have access to the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Following their exploration of the nearby 100 steps, Julinus and his delegation proceeded to visit the Japanese Cemetery and the Massacre Monument situated at the hilltop.

The presence of CK Teo, President of Sandakan Tourism Association (STAN), other dedicated team members of Sandakan Heritage Trail, and officials from STB further enriched the visit.

With the gradual recovery from the pandemic, there has been an increase in the number of tourists visiting Sandakan.

The free Sandakan Heritage Trail has become an essential activity for both local and foreign visitors, offering them a unique and enriching experience.
