Sabah, Huawei ink MOU to accelerate digitalisation initiatives

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah state government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to accelerate the state’s digital transformation initiatives.
In a statement today, the Sabah Chief Minister’s Department said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor witnessed the MoU signing in Shenzhen, China.
The chief minister, on a two-day working visit to China starting yesterday, said the partnership is a significant leap towards a digital future for Sabah.
“The partnership with Huawei Technologies will also empower our state and its citizens to reap benefits of technological innovation, fostering economic growth and improving public services,” he said.
Hajiji said Huawei Technologies will provide consultancy and advisory services in agriculture, smart manufacturing under Industry 4.0, tourism, smart city planning, e-commerce, digital infrastructures, inclusive connectivity and digital government.
“This will greatly assist in achieving our aspiration of digitalising the state government,” he said.
Huawei Technologies chief executive officer Simon Sun said that as Sabah pursues its vision of a thriving digital economy, the company is ready to support building a smart, digitally innovative and sustainable state.
Sabah Public Service director-general Datuk Zainudin Aman signed the MoU on behalf of the state government, while Simon represented Huawei Technologies.
Prior to the signing ceremony, the Chief Minister was taken on a tour of Huawei Technologies on smart city operations and intelligent education at the Huawei Enterprise Business Von Neumann Exhibition Hall.
