Be willing to learn, be creative, adaptable, curious, Sabah’s youth told

TUARAN: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam said the State’s young generation as the future leaders need to equip themselves with the willingness to learn and be creative, as well as have adaptability and curiosity to their surrounding situations.

He said apart from that, they should have the knowledge of nationalisms/ patriotism and need to understand how it works, why it matters, and how they can use it to create positive change.

Dr Joachim, who is also the Local Government and Housing Minister, said this at the Merdeka for Mereka (M4M) charity event for blind people here today. His speech was read by his Political Secretary Jonnybone J. Kurum.

Dr Joachim said he was very proud to see a group of young Junior Chamber International (JCI) leaders has gather together not only to raise and donate funds, but also to raise awareness and promote kindness that made remarkable impact to the blind society.

“Through this initiative, JCI has reached out to hundreds of people and has inspired many others to join their cause. Through these events, they have shown us that being blind is not a limitation, but a challenge that can be overcome with courage, determination and kindness,” he said.

“I am proud to see such a group of young leaders who have brought awareness and kindness to the blind community.

“They have also reminded us that we all have a responsibility to care for each other and to create a more inclusive and compassionate society for everyone,” said Dr Joachim who is also the Local Government and Housing Minister.

He applauded the efforts made by JCI through the M4M initiative and assured his support to their future endevours.

Also present were Wallace Sheltered Centre, President of Sabah Society for the Blind, Datuk Rosalind Chew; JCI Tanjung Aru Immediate Past President and 2023 JCI President, Stephy Tham and Kevin Khor and the Merdeka for Mereka (M4M) organising chairperson, Lim Wuang Ching.
