KUALA LUMPUR: The rivalry between the political parties that form the current government has ended since the formation of the Unity Government in December last year, said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.
He said all political parties in the Unity Government should move on from their past feuds to ensure stability in the country.
“There is no need for us to comment any more, as we said, we have formed the government for more than six months, so I think if we keep bringing up the old stories, it will never end.
“…the Cabinet has been functioning (well) and we have held Cabinet meetings every week for six months, and so far no issue regarding the chemistry of the parties in the Unity Government has arisen,” he told reporters after attending the UMNO president’s policy speech at the 2023 Umno General Assembly at the World Trade Centre here today.
He said this in response to UMNO Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh’s call for DAP to tender an open apology for making allegations against UMNO in the past.
The Minister of Transport said that what is important now is for the parties in the Unity Government to move forward and focus on facing other challenges ahead, including the economy and national development.
Meanwhile, Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal congratulated UMNO for the successful organisation of the party’s general assembly and offered his support for UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s policy speech.
“Ahmad Zahid, in his presidential policy speech, addressed issues concerning the people’s interests. Congratulations,” he told reporters.
Asked about Warisan’s cooperation in assisting the Unity Government in making preparations to face the upcoming state elections in Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, Mohd Shafie said the party had mobilised its machinery in the states involved.
Earlier in his policy speech, Ahmad Zahid said UMNO shoulders great responsibility to ensure the upcoming state elections in six states will result in the formation of state governments that complement the ruling federal Unity Government.
He said success at the state elections is vital to strengthening the Islamic and Malay agenda supported by Putrajaya, besides bringing about major changes, mainly involving essential development in the states.
