KOTA BELUD: Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin has fired its first salvo against the opponent as the upcoming 15th general election is looming near, calling the voters in the state to vote for BN.
Bung, who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister said there was no reason for the electorate to waste their votes on opposition candidates.
“BN has proven track record in bringing development to Sabah and fulfilling most of the promises made in the GE14.
“BN can also look after the interest of the people, irrespective of race and religion. There is no need to elect an opposition candidate again (in Kota Belud and Tuaran) as BN has shown its capability,” he said.
Bung, who is also UMNO Sabah chief, delivered his speech at the launching of the BN election machinery and Blue Wave Assembly for the Kota Belud and Tuaran parlimentary constituencies at the Tun Said Community Hall, here today.
Also present were Sabah BN Election Director Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, Kota Belud Umno division chief Fadli Juanas and Tuaran Umno chief Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
Bung said the party had already identified potential candidates for the Kota Belud parliamentary seat, and the top leadership is now scrutinising the list.
“What is important to us is that it is BN contesting in the election, not an individual. But if the individual is winnable and accepted by the rakyat, that person will be our candidate,” he said.
He said judging by the level of support for the party, BN is confident of wresting back the Kota Belud and Tuaran parlimentary seats in GE15.
Later, speaking to reporters, Bung said technically, UMNO state leadership would decide its candidates in the upcoming general election.
Asked on the seat negotiations with GRS, Bung said UMNO/BN and GRS are still in the process of negotiation.
“We hope and expect a win-win situation,” he said.
