He said the move was vital to enhance the effectiveness of the flood monitoring, thereby smoothing the evacuation operation every time there was a flood.

The former Sabah Chief Minister said he had conveyed the proposal to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage.

“As I emphasized earlier, I have conveyed my proposal to the official concerned about the needs for the flood monitoring system to be put in place and thank God this will be established in Kota Belud.

“So, we can monitor how the situation (flood) is. There are some places where we don’t have a quick solution, it takes time.

“So I have asked the relevant authorities to build evacuation houses and if a flood occurs and there is no solution yet, then they can move there,” he said.

Salleh told reporters this after visiting the flood mitigation project in Kampung Siasai Jaya, here on Thursday.

Also present was JPS engineer Jaffri Bahan.

Salleh said several flood mitigation projects have also been implemented in several villages in the district.
