KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister III, Datuk Ewon Benedick is pushing for stricter enforcement of the prohibition against parking container trailers along the roadside of Sepanggar Port Road and the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) area following a recent fatal accident.
As the Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport for Sabah, he stated that a special meeting will be held with relevant enforcement agencies to ensure compliance with the ban and prevent similar incidents from happening again.
He explained that the agencies involved in this discussion will include the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB), the Road Transport Department (RTD), the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) and the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK).
“The accident that resulted in loss of life due to container loading at Sepanggar Port Road was also discussed during the Sabah State Cabinet meeting.
“Following this, I will organize a special meeting involving enforcement agencies to ensure compliance with the ban on parking container trailers along the roadside at KKIP and throughout Sepanggar Port Road,” he said in a statement here today.
Ewon mentioned that the container trailer transit parking area provided by KKIP is now open and being used by container trailer service companies.
In light of this, he urged all container transport companies to take advantage of this facility and stop parking their trailers on the roadside.
