TENOM: Tenom is working to become one of Sabah’s top tourist destinations after Kundasang and Semporna by developing travel packages that highlight the area’s history, farm products, local coffee, and natural beauty.

Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister and Melalap assemblyman Datuk Jamawi Jaafar said this effort will be strengthened through a proposed Tenom Visit Year 2027, coinciding with Sabah Visit Year 2027.

He said the Discover Tenom committee, formed in April, is currently identifying tourism potential in Tenom and Kemabong, including attractive locations that can be developed commercially.

“Within the next two months, I am confident we can finalize tourism packages and attractions that can be promoted to the public so they choose Tenom as a tourist destination,” he told reporters after opening the MADANI Care Strategic Camp organized by SK St Anthony, Tenom, on Saturday night.

Jamawi said the proposed Tenom Visit Year 2027 has been discussed with the chairman of Tenom district’s tourism association, with a recommendation that it be submitted to the District Office for further action.

According to him, attractions that can be highlighted include Tenom Coffee, Tenom Pomelo, Rundum Highland Resort, Naluyan Jungle Lodge Resort, Murut Cultural Center, Sabah Agricultural Park, Yong Farmstay, and natural areas with potential to attract more visitors.

He said his office will also propose to the Sabah State Railway Department to provide express train service from Tanjung Aru to Tenom every Saturday and Sunday, with return trips in the late afternoon.

“With this service, more visitors from outside can come to Tenom. We can also offer two-day one-night and three-day two-night tourism packages using train transportation,” he said.
