SAFMA Explores Fishing Industry Growth Through Strategic Financial Institution Partnerships

SEMPORNA: Sabah Fish Marketing Sdn Bhd (SAFMA) is committed to expanding its presence and involvement in the fishing industry by establishing strategic partnerships with financial institutions to identify and capitalize on promising business and investment opportunities.

SAFMA’s Chief Executive Officer, Burhan Japar, emphasized that collaborating with financial institutions such as Agrobank is essential for enabling SAFMA to discover viable opportunities within the fishing sector, including the seaweed industry.

He made these remarks during a courtesy visit to Agrobank’s Semporna Branch Manager, Donny Abbie, as part of SAFMA’s working visit to the region.

According to him, this meeting provided both parties with an excellent platform to discuss the fishing industry’s potential in Semporna and explore various forms of cooperation in financing, project development, and business opportunities.

“SAFMA aspires to advance further by pursuing opportunities in the fishing industry. To realize this vision, we require a robust network of partnerships, particularly with financial institutions that possess expertise and financing capabilities in the agricultural and fishing sectors.

“This collaboration is expected to enable SAFMA to identify high-potential and viable projects while creating economic opportunities for fishermen, seaweed entrepreneurs, and local business owners,” he stated.

Burhan noted that Semporna possesses significant potential in the fishing and seaweed industries that can be developed through commercial approaches and cooperation among agencies, financial institutions, and industry stakeholders.

He stated that SAFMA will continue pursuing strategic partnership opportunities that not only strengthen the company’s position in the fishing industry but also add value to Sabah’s fishing output and enhance economic benefits for the local community.

Also present during the visit was SAFMA’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Azis Ali Amat.
