KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Government is actively exploring opportunities to acquire high-quality beef cattle breeds to reinforce the state’s livestock cattle industry, according to Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar.
He made this statement during an inspection visit to a cattle farm in Brisbane, Australia, accompanied by Sabah’s Director of Veterinary Services (DVS), Dr Zul Bahar Abdul Rashid, to assess the potential of a cattle breeding program for Sabah.
“This initiative focuses on developing superior beef cattle breeds for Sabah and supplying premium calves to farmers who have completed cattle management training courses,” he explained.
Jamawi emphasized that successful farmers will receive high-quality breeding cattle with superior meat characteristics, which promises to deliver substantially greater returns in the future.
“I am confident that Sabah’s beef cattle industry will achieve remarkable success if we secure premium-quality breeding stock,” he stated.
This effort to obtain superior breeds aligns with the State Government’s commitment to strengthening the livestock sector and enabling farmers to boost productivity and income.
Also present were Sabah Land Development Board (SLDB) Chief Executive Datuk Syaheddrul R Joddari; Agrimeat PTG LTD Director and Founder Olanz Anwar; and Agrimeat PTY LTD International Trade & Supply Chain Director Mukhlis Rohaizak.
