KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Sabah has apprehended a civil servant and a former chief executive officer (CEO) on allegations of soliciting and accepting approximately RM18,000 in bribes to facilitate a company’s gold mining operations.
The two men, both in their sixties, were detained at approximately 10 a.m on Wednesday when they arrived to provide statements at the MACC office
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects conspired in this unlawful conduct during 2024 and 2025, with the money believed to have been received in cash.
Sabah MACC Director Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the arrests.
He stated that the case is being investigated under Sections 17(a) and 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
Both suspects are scheduled to be charged at the Kota Kinabaluj Sessions Court on September 28.
