KOTA KINABALU: Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Sdn Bhd (KTC), under the leadership of prominent East Malaysian businessman Datuk Dexter Lau, is nearing the final phase of assessing potential investments in Indochina.
As Chairman of the Malaysia–Cambodia Business Association (MCBA) for East Malaysia, Datuk Dexter Lau said he has engaged in discussions with MCBA members and business representatives from across the Indochina region to explore opportunities.
“Based on the insights gathered, and looking at long-term growth prospects in Indochina, certainly it is a good time to come in,” he stated during a recent press briefing.
Indochina includes Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand.
Datuk Dexter Lau confirmed that KTC is preparing to enter markets within the region.
“If plans move forward as intended, KTC will establish a presence in Indochina by applying its manufacturing and export capabilities developed in East Malaysia, enabling our team to integrate smoothly with ongoing regional operations,” he added.
He added that the company aims to launch operations by opening a facility or office in one of the region’s capital cities as early as October, with broader expansion across Indochina expected thereafter.
Datuk Dexter Lau expressed optimism that the project will progress according to schedule in the months ahead.
While not disclosing specific figures, he mentioned that the initial investment is projected to fall between RM20 million and RM30 million.
He highlighted that consumer behavior and market trends—especially in the food sector—are similar to those in Sabah, giving KTC a strategic edge in adapting to the regional market.
KTC is a leading corporate entity in East Malaysia, and potentially in Malaysia as well as a publicly listed company on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia.
