KOTA KINABALU: The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has unanimously agreed to accept the Pertubuhan Kinabalu Progresif Bersatu (UPKO) as a new coalition member, effective immediately.

GRS Chairman, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, stated that this decision was made during the GRS Supreme Council Meeting, here on Thursday.

He mentioned that UPKO’s inclusion aligns with GRS’s mission, which is based on the concept of “Sabah United, Sabah First,” and aims to strengthen collaboration among local parties.

“We have unanimously agreed to accept UPKO as a new member of the GRS coalition.

“This acceptance is in line with GRS’s own struggle, which is Sabah United, Sabah First, and to empower local coalition parties,” he said at a press conference following the meeting.

Hajiji noted that UPKO’s entry is expected to enhance the stability of the state government currently led by GRS.

He confirmed that UPKO’s membership status in the coalition takes effect immediately after the decision was reached by the GRS Supreme Council.

“Starting today, UPKO officially becomes a member of GRS, and this will be communicated to UPKO shortly,” he stated.

When asked if there were any concerns among component parties regarding UPKO’s inclusion, Hajiji emphasized that all parties supported the decision without any objections.

“No. Everyone agrees because we want to strengthen GRS. So there are no issues of concern or anything else,” he said.
