PENAMPANG: The Sabah State Government remains committed to strengthening education access through various forms of assistance and support for students, said Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Ceasar Mandela Malakun.
He said that apart from continuing to provide scholarships and bursaries, the government also provided 14 educational assistance initiatives, including One-Off IPT Registration Cash Assistance (BUDI), Computer Kindness Assistance (BAIK), Special Examination Cash Assistance (BAKTI), Sabah Student Flight Ticket Assistance (SUBFLY) and Sabah Higher Education Student Contribution (SENTOSA).
He said this when officiating the SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin Student Excellence Award Ceremony (MAKEM) for the 2025 Academic Session, which took place at the Harmoni Hall, SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin, on Friday.
The ceremony was held to recognise the outstanding achievements of students in the academic field and to appreciate the continuous efforts of teachers and parents in ensuring the success of their children.
Mandela congratulated all the educated citizens of SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin for their encouraging achievements in the 2025 SPM examinations.
A total of 73 students managed to obtain 5A results and above, while 17 students recorded Straight A results.
In conjunction with the programme, Mandela also presented educational incentives to excellent students as a sign of appreciation and encouragement to continue to achieve excellence in the future.
Now entering its third year of implementation, this educational incentive presentation programme continues to be one of the main initiatives in appreciating student excellence in the Penampang area.
After being implemented at SMK Bahang, the same programme will be continued at SMK Limbanak and SM St Michael in the near future, thus ensuring that more excellent students receive recognition for their efforts and achievements.
Mandela said that this effort reflects the ongoing commitment to ensure that students in Penampang receive due recognition for their achievements, in addition to injecting motivation into the younger generation to continue pursuing excellence in education.
He also urged eligible students to take advantage of the Sabah State Government Scholarship (BKNS) application opportunity, which has been reopened starting June 11, 2026, in line with the government’s efforts to ensure that financial factors do not become a barrier for Sabah children to further their studies.
