SMJ is a strategic step toward Sabah’s development, says Janathan

KOTA MARUDU: Dato’ Dr. Janathan Kandok, Chairman of PERKOM, has voiced strong support for the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) initiative, describing it as a vital strategy for improving the overall well-being of Sabah’s population.

Dr. Janathan made the remarks in response to online criticism suggesting that the current GRS administration, led by Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, is less effective than the previous government under opposition leadership.

He stressed that SMJ represents a comprehensive and forward-looking approach by the state government—not only aimed at boosting economic growth but also focused on enhancing public welfare.

“SMJ reflects the government’s clear commitment to reducing poverty and raising living standards through concrete measures, including affordable housing, education support, and practical skills training,” he said.

He noted that the real impact of SMJ will become evident as new investments create employment opportunities and welfare programs effectively reach the most deserving individuals.

“Programs such as SMJ Friendly Homes and educational aid for Sabah students show that people’s welfare remains central to every development effort,” he added.

Dr. Janathan called on all Sabahans to work together with authorities to ensure the successful rollout of SMJ initiatives.

He encouraged the public to stay informed through official channels—such as district offices and government agencies—to avoid missing out on available benefits.

As head of Kota Marudu’s local economic development body, he expressed confidence that with sound governance and sustained effort, the SMJ vision will help guide Sabah toward greater prosperity, stability, and competitiveness.
