Continued negotiations for a 40% revenue entitlement show the GRS government attentive to the needs of the people – Victor

KOTA KINABALU: The Prime Minister’s announcement regarding the increase of interim funding from RM600 million to RM1.5 billion is indeed positive news.

Dato’ Victor P. Paut, the head of PGRS Tambunan, stated that this announcement serves as a benchmark indicating that the 40% demand from Sabah is receiving the appropriate attention from the Federation.

However, he emphasised that the state government will persist in advocating for Sabah’s rights until they are fully realised.

“This demonstrates that the approach taken by the Sabah State Government under the leadership of YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Hj Hajiji is focused on opening avenues for negotiation while maintaining good relations between both parties,” he said.

The state government will continue to fight for Sabah’s rights as enshrined in MA63, including the 40% demand, even though it is not as straightforward as it may seem,” he remarked.

According to Victor, through the state government, Hajiji prefers a negotiation route to avoid any confrontation or expressing sentiments that ultimately do not yield results for the people of Sabah.

“The government has chosen a mature path and remains firm in defending rights while simultaneously ensuring the relationship between the state and the Federation is preserved.

“We welcome the announcement with deep gratitude, but the struggle to secure Sabah’s rights must continue until a comprehensive resolution is achieved.

“The people are still awaiting the resolution of the 40% demand,” he stated, also serving as the deputy chairman of Sawit Kinabalu and Borneo Samudera Sdn Bhd,” he added.

He noted that the increase to RM1.5 billion demonstrates that the negotiation path chosen by GRS is not a sign of weakness but rather a route that yields results for the people of Sabah.

“Indeed, this commitment has long been awaited and should be appreciated by all the people of Sabah,” he added.

In this regard, Victor hoped that this commitment can be further understood and followed up with actions to review the special grant rates.
