KOTA KINABALU: Ir. Abdul Aziz Julkarnain, Barisan Nasional (BN) Sabah’s Strategic Communications Director, has called on all Unity Government leaders to uphold the political autonomy of individual states and to refrain from publicly criticizing BN Johor’s decision to contest all 56 seats in the upcoming Johor State Election (PRN).
He emphasized that recognizing each state’s political context and listening to grassroots sentiment are essential to maintaining a stable and resilient government.
In a statement issued today, he voiced strong backing for remarks made by BN Secretary-General Zambry Abdul Kadir and BN Johor Chairman Onn Hafiz Ghazi, describing them as evidence of the coalition’s maturity and its ability to balance national responsibilities with party commitments at the ground level.
“BN remains committed to supporting the Unity Government to safeguard political stability and national progress.
“At a time of global geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty, our focus should be on national continuity and public well-being, not drawn-out political disputes,” he said.
Abdul Aziz expressed concern over the swift and public reactions from certain Unity Government figures regarding BN Johor’s stance, warning that such responses could weaken the mutual trust carefully built among coalition partners.
He stressed that BN’s decisions are rooted in local realities, shaped by on-the-ground feedback, and guided by the long-term interests of both the party and the respective states.
“We must acknowledge that state-level politics do not always mirror federal dynamics.
“Each state has its own distinct history, population makeup, and political environment—factors that deserve recognition and respect,” he added.
