Morning blaze destroys 30 houses in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: A total of 30 non permanent homes were destroyed in a fire on Jalan Bokara PPH Kampung Karamunting early Wednesday morning.

The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) reported that they received an emergency call at 3:16 AM, with fire engines arriving at the scene by 3:34 AM.

Operations Commander, Rosemedian Majid, stated that the fire affected an area of approximately 3.5 acres.

He mentioned that the firefighting operation involved 21 personnel, with assistance from several other agencies including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), APM, RELA, and TLDM.

“The fire brigade utilized three hoses, each 500 feet long, with five water jets to control the blaze,” he said.

He added that the fire was brought under control by 4:29 AM, and around 100 nearby houses were saved.

Furthermore, no casualties were reported, and the operation was fully concluded by 7:01 AM after the situation was confirmed safe.
