Sepanggar Fishing Festival 2026 offers a prize of RM16,100

KOTA KINABALU: The Sepanggar Fishing Festival 2026 is set to take place on May 17 at the ODEC Jetty, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), featuring a grand prize of RM10,000 for the winner.

This event, organized by Sabah News Today (SNT) in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and the fishing community of Kampung Bangka-Bangka, aims to attract 350 participants from across Sabah, with an entry fee of RM100 per person.

The program’s opening ceremony will be officiated by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industry of Sabah, Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, while the closing ceremony and prize distribution will be conducted by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak), Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.

This initiative aims to promote healthy recreational activities within the community and strengthen local community ties.

Additionally, the event is expected to positively impact the local fishing community’s economy through supporting activities such as boat services and seafood sales.
