The issue of ICs should not be politicised in the Sandakan fire tragedy – Shafie

KOTA KINABALU: The President of the Parti Warisan Sabah, Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal, has requested that all parties refrain from linking the identity card issue to the fire incident in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan.

He said the primary focus at this time should be on assisting the affected victims, which involves over 9,000 residents and more than 1,000 homes that were destroyed in the incident.

“Let the authorities conduct a census on this matter,” he said.

He also mentioned that previous fire incidents in Tawau, Kota Kinabalu, and Penampang were never associated with identity card issues.

Shafie denied allegations linking Warisan to the issuance of identity cards to fire victims and urged all parties to stop spreading falsehoods on social media.

In the meantime, Warisan is preparing to conduct its upcoming party election in July or August, even though the party’s constitution stipulates that it must occur by the middle of next year.

Shafie mentioned that the party elections should take place sooner to fill the positions left vacant by those who have resigned or to replace individuals who have expressed their desire to resign from their roles.
