BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games 2026 serves as a platform for regional unity – Nizam

KOTA KINABALU: The organization of the BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games 2026 is viewed as a means to strengthen regional unity and enhance youth development, stated the Minister of Youth Development, Sports Advancement, and Creative Economy of Sabah, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan.

He said the event is not merely a sports competition, but also an opportunity to foster friendship and cooperation among the member countries of BIMP-EAGA, which include Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia.

“With the participation of over 3,000 athletes and officials, this event reflects the spirit of unity and regional togetherness that we greatly value,” he said.

According to him, athletes under the age of 21 will compete in nine sports disciplines, including athletics, swimming, badminton, sepak takraw, and e-sports.

Nizam said that the state government remains committed to making youth and sports development a driving force for social progress and economic growth.
