Six Warisan assemblymen submit a memo to MACC, demanding an immediate explanation over the Sabah mining scandal

SANDAKAN: Six assemblymen from Warisan in Sandakan officially delivered a memorandum to the MACC here on Friday, firmly urging the authorities to provide a comprehensive, transparent, and prompt explanation over the delays in the investigation of other individuals linked to the Sabah Mining Scandal.

The assemblymen concerned are Calvin Chong (Elopura), Lisa Alban (Sungai Sibuga), Alias Hj. Sani (Sekong), the representative for Arunanarsin Taib (GumGum), Alex Wong (Karamunting), and Alex Thien (Tanjong Papat).

The submission of this memorandum reflects the serious concerns and moral responsibility of the elected representatives towards the people of Sabah, who are increasingly losing confidence in the enforcement institutions’ ability to address this large-scale corruption scandal.

So far, the progress of the investigation by the MACC appears to be inconsistent with the severity of the scandal involving various high-profile political figures.

Although it has been previously reported that more than 15 individuals have been implicated, including senior state leaders, only a small fraction has been charged, while the investigation status of others remains unclear.

This situation raises serious questions among the public about whether there are weaknesses in the investigation process or the possibility of political interference hindering further action against certain parties.

More concerning is that various pieces of evidence, including video recordings, financial documents, money trail evidence, and complete reports submitted to the authorities, have yet to result in comprehensive action.

If the same evidence has been sufficient to charge several individuals, then the failure to take action against other implicated individuals will only reinforce the perception that justice is not being administered fairly and equitably.
