No basis to revive Manila’s claims over Sabah – Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has emphasised that there is no basis for reviving Manila’s claims over Sabah, as recently raised by a Filipino senator.

He stated that Sabah is a sovereign state within the Federation of Malaysia, and any attempt to link this issue with the current energy crisis is inappropriate and should not be used as a reason to resurrect outdated claims.

“Sabah is a sovereign state within the Federation of Malaysia and should not be questioned.

“There is no need to make this an issue or to use the current energy crisis to revive old claims,” he said.

He made these remarks during the state-level Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) today.

This statement comes amid various reactions from parties in Sabah who firmly reject any attempts to bring up the issue of claims against the state.

Additionally, Hajiji urged the people to continue fostering harmony and unity to ensure that Sabah remains peaceful.

“Our hope is that everyone lives in harmony so that we can continue to celebrate all festive occasions peacefully,” he added.

The open house event was attended by approximately 20,000 visitors and was graced by the presence of the governor of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, along with his wife, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin.

Also present were the wife of the Chief Minister, Datin Seri Panglima Datuk Juliah Salag, and members of the state Cabinet
