KOTA KINABALU: The flooding affecting several areas in the state has worsened, with some school buildings nearly submerged.
Among them is Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pandan Mandamai in Pitas, which went viral on social media as floodwaters approached the school’s roof.
The Director of Education for Sabah, Datuk Raisin Saidin, confirmed this, stating that Pitas has been declared a flood disaster area, impacting several schools.
“Several schools are affected, including SK Pandan Mandamai, SK Kasagaan, and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Pitas II.
“Many routes to these schools are also impassable,” he said on Friday.
However, Raisin noted that the schools are not currently in session, as students are on holiday.
“It is currently school break, and students do not need to attend school, but we hope the situation improves before classes resume next Monday,” he added.
Meanwhile, viral images show the condition of SK Pandan Mandamai, which is nearly submerged due to the flooding.
Continuous rain in several areas of the state has also affected other districts, including Kota Marudu, Telupid, and Sandakan.
